ABOUT FAMIGOS -Presentation
FAMIGOS is a non-profit aid organisation with clear objectives. FAMIGOS has no political or religious affiliations, or other relations governmental organisation, be it international, regional or local.
OBJECTIVES OF THE FOUNDATION
- To offer an integrated treatment to poor children with neurological disorders and reach increased social functionality.
- To work for an improved quality in proactive measures as well as treatments of neurologically handicapped children, through continuous further scientific and technological education of the staff.
- To furnish our rehabilitation centres and offer specialist equipment to be able to offer the children an optimal service.
- Participate in dissemination of knowledge about neurological disorders, preventative activities and treatment methods.
WHAT WAS THE ORIGIN OF THE FOUNDATION?
The project to establish a rehabilitation centre in Valledupar was initiated by Yesica Romero, after having worked with and visited a lot of disabled poor children in their homes, seeing a high number of neglected children not getting any kind of treatment, and the fact that the region of Valledupar has ha high rate of children and youngsters with neurological handicaps, and who do not posses enough resources to be able to obtain an integrated continuous rehabilitation.
There is not enough capacity in the Cesar Region’s treatment centres where physiotherapy, orthopaedics and speech and language therapy is offered.
There is no programme where these patients are offered a treatment plan that help them in the quickest and most efficient way to develop, through diagnostics, preventive measures, activities, treatment, rehabilitation and education of the patients and their parents.
LOCATION
The foundation AMIGOS’ rehabilitation centre is in Valledupar, in northern Colombia (read more about Valledupar on Wikipedia) and has its administrative headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden.
The purpose and operations of the headquarters in Sweden is to inform, inspire, engage, plan and perform events and campaigns for collecting funds for the centre in Valledupar.

THE STAFF
The foundations operations are performed by a group of voluntary specialists, professional therapists specialized in different areas, like; orthopaedics, physiotherapy, psychology etc. Current volunteers:
